Census 2010 Information
The Colorado Democratic Party is serving as a community partner for the 2010 Census in our state. The Montezuma County Democratic Party is working with the state party to ensure that all of the people in Montezuma County are counted.
We have been asked to distribute the following information about the importance of the census. Census questionnaires this year are much shorter and consist of only 10 easy questions. It is important to understand that the census is not just about the monetary gains our county receives in federal dollars ($826 per person per year that pays for things like rec centers and libraries), but it is also vital to our party that everyone be counted.
The Census’ goal is to accurately count every person residing in the US, regardless of immigration status. The information obtained through the Census is confidential and protected by the constitution. It is illegal for the Census Bureau or its employees to share your personal information with any other government officials including the IRS, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service or even the President.
Of particular importance to the Democratic Party is the fact that the Census 2010 figures will be used to determine congressional redistricting in spring 2011.
The following links will take you to some pdf documents prepared by the US Census Bureau to help people understand the importance of the census. Please look these documents over and share this information with your family and friends, whether they live in Montezuma County or elsewhere — it is important that everyone be counted!
