Mission Statement
The mission of the Montezuma County Democratic Party is to increase party affiliation and participation in order to achieve significant and positive changes to the county, state, and country, by encouraging people to actively make a difference.

Core Values

Respect

We affirm the individuality of each person through fairness, dignity and compassion.
Integrity

We will demonstrate the courage to speak and act honestly to build trust.
Communication

We will be open to the exchange of information among all citizens.
Equality

We will foster acceptance of all thoughts and opinions.
Stewardship

We will use our human talent and economic resources responsibly with special concern for our environment.

Goals
Our county party works with the state party to elect Democratic federal, state, district, county, and city candidates to office. We live in a largely Republican county so that goal is a difficult one. Members also take active part in other groups in order to play a significant role in the growth and changes that must take place in any community as natural growth occurs.

Precinct Captains
We have eleven precincts. The job of precinct chair (or captain) is an important one. Most of our precincts are in need of one or two as seats have become vacant. Anyone interested in serving as precinct chair please contact us.

What do Precinct Captains do? The Precinct Captains are the backbone of our party. They constitute the Board of Directors for the local Democratic Party. If you want a voice in the next election, this post will provide it. Precinct Captains elect the Central Committee officers.

As a Precinct Captain your main job would be to collect some “straw poll” information from time to time. This will involve some phone time. You will, hopefully, be comfortable enough to invite people in your precinct for get-togethers from time to time, and try to reach out to the undecideds within your neighborhoods.

Precinct Captains are elected at caucus. According to caucus rules, Precinct Captains are required to:

  • Attend all meetings of the County Central Committee unless properly excused.
  • Attempt to recruit party workers and supervise their activities within the precinct.
  • Distribute and/or supervise distribution of party literature in the precinct.
  • Conduct and/or cause to be conducted within the precinct party activities such as registration drives, fund drives, and canvasses as may be required by rule or resolution of the State or County Central Committees.
  • Notify registered democrats in the precinct of the time and place of the precinct caucus.
  • Support the nominees of the party, with the exception that financial support not be required.
  • Committee people should promise to make good faith efforts to perform these duties to the best of their ability and to recognize that in case of failure of performance, they may be removed from office by the County Central Committee.
